Why the words stay this time

Most vocabulary apps show you a word, mark it “learned”, and move on. VocabPath is built around a simpler idea: bring each word back just before you would forget it, in the context of the exam or goal you chose.

1. Diagnose the gaps

Start with a free level check for your track (GCSE or 11+). Instead of only a score, the report names the words you missed — the actual list you should practise.

2. Practise in short sessions

Five-minute quests mix new words with reviews. The goal is momentum you can keep on a school night, not a weekend marathon that evaporates by Monday.

3. Space the returns

Spaced repetition schedules reviews at expanding intervals. That pattern is one of the most replicated findings in learning science for durable memory — we use it so words show up again when they are about to slip.

For a readable overview of spacing effects, see Cepeda et al.’s review of distributed practice (Psychological Bulletin) and classroom applications summarised by the Learning Scientists. VocabPath applies the idea in short, exam-track sessions rather than as an abstract flashcard theory page.

What this is not

It is not a promise of a grade or a school place. Vocabulary is one lever inside a wider study plan: papers, feedback, and reading still matter. The product’s job is to make the vocabulary part specific and repeatable.

Session design

A good vocabulary session is short enough to finish and hard enough to notice mistakes. VocabPath sessions keep the prompt close to how exams ask for meaning — choose the closest sense, use the word in context — then schedule the next appearance based on how you did.
